Hmm. The Devil is in the details är ett gammalt engelsk ordspråk. Vad gäller Gud är i detaljen nämns ibland Le Corbusier, oftare Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (ibland samtidigt med Art Warburg). Enligt Bartlett's så är påståendet att Flaubert skulle vara upphovsman obestyrkt.
(William Safire mentioned it in a New York Times article on July 30, 1989. He spoke with the editor of Bartlett's, who said:
"We've had little success with 'God (or 'the Devil') is in the details,'" says Mr. Kaplan. "We know that Mies van der Rohe used it in discussing architecture; Flaubert has been suggested, but nobody can find it in his writings. I think it may come from John Ruskin, because it sounds like him on the subject of workmanship, but we need the specific citation.")

Hmm -- en del hävdar, precis som du, att Gud föregår Djävulen här. En del betecknar "The Devil ..." endast som ett proverb, andra att det är en variant på "God ..." Vissa hävdar att "Gud är..." yttrades först av Michelangelo. Wikiquotes listar Der Teufel steckt im Detail som ett tyskt ordspråk. Hmm, som sagt. En sak är dock säker:
Varken Sahlin eller Schottenius har några framträdande roller i sammanhanget.
(Och ja, "finns" är nog bättre ändå ... dock tycker jag att både "finns" och f. a. "bor" är otillfredsställande. Well.)
